Safe Travels

Help your patients stay healthy while traveling abroad by having them book an appointment at Forward Pharmacy’s Safe Travels Clinic. Our Safe Travels clinic provides pre-travel counseling, including destination-specific vaccinations, prescription and over-the-counter medication recommendations, information regarding potential health risks, and personal safety information.

Recommendations can change anytime—from which antibiotics are still effective at treating diarrhea to which countries require a yellow fever vaccination—so have your patients book an appointment with us to ensure they are up to date with the latest travel health information.

To make sure your patients are fully protected against infectious diseases, we recommend they book their appointment 6 to 8 weeks before travel.

These services are possible thanks to Forward Pharmacy Travel Consultant Kim Shumaker, PharmD. Kim has devoted much of the last 12 years to providing consultations for people traveling outside the U.S. by offering recommendations and providing vaccinations for preventable travel-related illness.

Prescription Tips

• When sending over a prescription for insulin, don’t forget to send a prescription for the pen needles, too!
• If you change the dose of medication, please put “intended dose increase/decrease.” This helps pharmacy staff provide better consultation to your patients and helps ensure your patients are getting the right dose of their medication.
• Please send e-rxs for all over-the-counter products your patients use. They are often covered by insurance, but even if they are not, patients can use their HSA money. When in doubt, send a prescription!
